Set up your first printer

The quickest graphical route is the Printer Installation Wizard.

1. Open the BrightQ-Pro Configuration Tool by running codehost-config in an X11 session.
2. Select the Add Printer icon or Printer → Printer Installation Wizard.
3. Select Local (USB, parallel, serial or file) or Remote (LPD, IPP, SMB or socket).
4. Enter connection details, or scan the local network where supported.
5. Choose the printer manufacturer, model, and any installed hardware accessories.
6. Enter the queue name and optional location/description. Queue names cannot contain spaces or arbitrary punctuation.
7. Decide whether to make the new queue the system default and whether to enable PJM and filter processing.
8. Review the settings, create the queue and print a Test Page.

Tip

For network printers, record the printer’s protocol, IP/hostname, port and queue/resource before starting. IPP typically uses port 631, LPD 515, and raw socket/JetDirect 9100, but your device may differ.
