Troubleshooting checklist

Start with the following checks before editing print system configuration:
For Canon queues, also review Canon printing issues for application settings, CUPS filtering, controller requirements, and installation libraries.
- Check the installed version and vendor README. Printer, spooler and OS support vary by distribution.
- Verify the spooler is running. BrightQ-Pro relies on an existing CUPS, System V, BSD/LPRng or AIX print system.
- Inspect queues and statuses. Run
codehost-config -aandcodehost-config -q. - Verify the connection URI. For network devices, check hostname, port, resource/path and remote LPD queue.
- Check printer model/driver. A wrong PPD or absent device license can prevent correct rendering or hide finishing options.
- Test raw vs filtered mode carefully. Only use raw mode for print-ready data compatible with the destination.
- Review permissions. Queue creation, driver changes and monitoring are often administrator-only.
- Read logs and device status. Use the underlying spooler’s diagnostics plus
codehost-config -t <queue>where supported.
Common symptoms
Section titled “Common symptoms”| Symptom | Likely area to check |
|---|---|
| Printer is unreachable | Network/USB connection, hostname/port and firewall. |
| Job is accepted but not printed | Queue disabled, printer unavailable, spooler state. |
| Output is garbled | Wrong PPD, wrong PDL, raw mode, incompatible filter. |
| PJM does not appear | Queue PJM setting, lack of X11, installer integration. |
| Job options are missing | Driver-specific capability, raw queue, filter configuration. |
| Licensing doesn’t activate | Registration state, machine ID, CLP file, license service availability. |
