Upgrading from an older release

BrightINSTALL detects existing BrightQ installations and attempts to retain already configured printers and settings.

When upgrading to BrightQ-Pro 2.5:

• Versions BrightQ 1.6.5 or later can be upgraded without first uninstalling the old version.
• Versions 1.6.4 and earlier must be removed first.
• The print system originally selected for BrightQ cannot be switched as part of that in-place upgrade.

Back up configuration, licenses, and queue settings before proceeding.

CUPS exception for Red Hat Linux 9 and Solaris

For these systems using CUPS, uninstall BrightQ 1.6.5 before installing 2.5. The Canon package’s installation notes identify this exception to the normal in-place upgrade path to avoid CUPS errors and unexpected behavior.
